Vice-Minister of Culture Dr Ingrida Veliutė discusses cooperation in the field of historical memory in Warsaw
On 25-26 June, Vice-Minister of Culture Dr Ingrida Veliutė visited Warsaw, where she participated in the 20th anniversary event of the European Network of Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS) and in the meeting of the General Assembly of the Network.
Congratulating the ENRS representatives on the 20th anniversary, the Vice-Minister underlined the importance of the Network in researching and disseminating the complex history of 20th century Europe.
"Today, in the face of renewed attempts to rewrite history and deny the crimes of totalitarian regimes, the joint work of European countries in the field of historical memory is vital. The ENRS platform offers a unique opportunity not only to analyse together the lessons of the past, but also to strengthen the resilience of our societies to disinformation and propaganda," said Vice-Minister Dr. I. Veliutė.
The ENRS anniversary event was attended by Hanna Wróblewska, Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage, as well as three former Ministers.
During her visit, Dr I. Veliutė met with the Polish State Secretary for Culture and National Heritage Bożena Żelazowska and discussed issues related to the preservation and digitisation of cultural values, the prospects for bilateral cooperation in the fields of historical memory and heritage, and welcomed the active relations between Lithuanian and Polish institutions.
During the ENRS General Assembly meeting, the Vice-Minister of Culture and representatives of other countries discussed Lithuania's further participation in the activities and joint projects of the network.
During her visit to Warsaw, Vice-Minister Dr I. Veliutė visited the newly established PANOPTIKUM Centre of Excellence for Museums, which was presented by the Deputy of the National Institute of Museums Bartosz Skaldawski, and met with the Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Warsaw Joanna Mytkowska to discuss possible exchange projects and cooperation between Lithuanian and Polish cultural institutions.
