Lithuania and South Korea strengthen cooperation in the creative industries

The Minister for Culture Lukas Alsys met with Jungwook Kim, Executive Director of the Korea Development Institute, other representatives of the institute and Joyoung Jeon, the South Korean Ambassador to Lithuania.

The meeting, also attended by representatives of the Innovation Agency Lithuania, focused on cooperation between Lithuania and South Korea in the field of cultural and creative industries (CCIs).

“Cooperation between Lithuania and South Korea opens up new opportunities for the development of the cultural and creative industries. By working with Korean experts, we can gain valuable experience, seek new solutions and adapt them to Lithuania’s needs. I am confident that this partnership will form the basis for further cooperation and will help to create more favourable conditions for the synergy between culture, creativity and technology in Lithuania,” said Minister of Culture Lukas Alsys.

Participants at the meeting emphasised that the cultural and creative industries account for around 4% of Lithuania’s GDP and are vital for economic growth and innovation. It is one of the fastest-growing sectors in Lithuania, bringing together art, culture, business and advanced technologies.

In 2023–2024, the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Korea Development Institute, implemented the Development of the ArtTech Ecosystem in the Cultural and Creative Industries in Lithuania project as part of the Knowledge Sharing Programme. One of the key outcomes of the project was the establishment of the ArtTech Hub at the Innovation Agency Lithuania.

Representatives and experts of South Korea, working alongside their Lithuanian counterparts, analysed the current state of Lithuania’s creative industries and ArtTech sector. Furthermore, drawing on best practice from South Korea, recommendations were drawn up for Lithuania with a view to achieving a breakthrough in the field of ArtTech.

The partners in this project in Lithuania are the Baltic Film & Creative Tech Cluster, the Lithuanian Innovation Centre, the Innovation Agency Lithuania, AGATA, and the Rupert Centre for Art, Residencies and Education.

The Knowledge Sharing Programme is administered by the South Korean Ministry of Finance and Economy.
