Vaida Aleknavičienė has taken up the position of Minister of Culture

The new minister emphasizes that one of the most important and urgent items on her agenda will be reviewing and strengthening the budget for culture, as well as strengthening open dialogue with the cultural community, listening to its voice and involving it in the search for joint solutions.

Among her priority areas of activity, the minister highlights preparations for Lithuania's Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2027, the preparation of the national cultural agenda, the cultural season in Germany and increasing the accessibility of culture to the entire Lithuanian society.

"I am very happy to join the ministry's team. I have always seen culture and education as two inseparable areas that reinforce each other. We will work together as the anniversary year of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis continues. His idea that one must have light within oneself in order to illuminate those standing in darkness on the path perfectly reflects our mission. I believe that together, in close cooperation with the entire cultural community, we will carry this light with dignity and ensure that culture in Lithuania shines brightly," said V. Aleknavičienė.

The new Minister of Culture has served as Chair of the Seimas Committee on Education and Science, Chair of the Interparliamentary Relations with the Federal Republic of Germany Group, member of the Seimas Committee on European Affairs and member of the Seimas and World Lithuanian Community Commission since 2024. Prior to that, she served as Vice Mayor of Joniškis District for almost a decade.

V. Aleknavičienė holds bachelor's degrees in business management and English philology, master's degrees in social work and education and is pursuing a doctorate in social work at the University of Lapland.
