The Minister Š. Birutis meets the Ambassador of France: “Culture is the core of resilience of European societies”
The Minister of Culture Šarūnas Birutis met with the Ambassador of France Alix Everard who visited the Ministry of Culture to discuss intensive cultural cooperation, the successful Lithuanian season in France “The Other Same”, the results of which were presented to the public, and geopolitical issues.
One of the most recent examples of cultural cooperation is the documentary “Brothers of the Forest” by French director Antoine de Meaux, which will hit the cinemas in February and tells the story of the Baltic freedom struggle.
According to the Minister of Culture, Š. Birutis, in the light of what is currently happening in the world, we need not only weapons, but also the power of culture, and culture is the core axis of resilience of European societies and a component of defence: “Therefore, we need to defend culture, teach people to be information resilient. We need to pay even more attention to it.”
The Ambassador A. Everard also expressed her interest in the other political priorities of the Minister of Culture, thanked him for the well-received Lithuanian season in France, which has opened a new phase of our cultural relations, and for the ambition to cooperate in a more structured way through the implementation of the agreements signed between Sorbonne University and Vilnius University, the Louvre Museum and the Lithuanian National Museum, the Pompidou Museum and MO Museum, as well as many other initiatives involving Lithuanian and French artists, curators and cultural institutions. Information on the projects planned to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of M.K. Čiurlionis and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Jewish Research Institute (YIVO) in Vilnius was exchanged.
