S. Kairys: “Song Celebration of the Centenary – a masterpiece of optimism for all of us”
In the aftermath of the Lithuanian Song Celebration “Kad giria žaliuotų”, the Minister of Culture Simonas Kairys thanks all the organisers and participants for creating a special atmosphere of unity, joy and optimism.
According to the Minister of Culture, the Lithuanian Song Celebration is a joint masterpiece of optimism for all of us.
“The Song Celebration of the Centenary has once again shown that we can truly be united, we know how to rejoice and celebrate., and our joy is unique, well thought-out, experienced and comprehended. The Song Festival was born as a masterpiece of optimism by the creators of the state, and it has remained a masterpiece to this day.
Would those creators of the state and of the festival be happy to see our festival? Have we made their dreams come true? Is this how they imagined our country 100 years later? I believe we did make their dreams come true. We have regained and preserved Lithuania's freedom, we are a nation that creates, nurtures, defends and, if necessary, helps the weaker. We are a nation that is indifferent and optimistic about the future of Europe. Our young people are the happiest young people in the world!
All week long, we saw the Lithuania of our dreams – so much focus, effort, desire to be together! All of us together! And that dream turned into a reality. Let's retain this feeling as long as possible. And once we fall into our daily routine, let’s remember the Song Festival of the Centenary – a once-in-a-lifetime event which we can reminisce about.
Thanks to each and every one of you who contributed. Miracles and great things are always made by people. My special thanks goes to the team of the Lithuanian National Centre for Culture, to the bands, choirs, their directors, conductors and volunteers. I also want to thank all the institutions and authorities for such close cooperation: from ministries to services, from local municipalities to the Diaspora.
Thank you everyone who came. Thank you everyone who turned TV screens on. The event was such a success because everyone cared - it was, it is and it will continue to be important and precious to us all!“
