New director Julija Reklaitė at the Lithuanian Culture Institute

The new director of the Lithuanian Culture Institute, Julija Reklaitė, began work on Monday, having won a competitive selection process in December of last year.

"Achievable results during my leadership of the Lithuanian Culture Institute include making it an institution orientated to directed, long-term objectives, distinguished by its expertise and the reputation arising from that expertise, transparent communication and organisation of funding competitions, and broader, more sustainable, open and long-term cooperation among Lithuanian and foreign creatives and cultural institutions," Reklaitė said in presenting the Lithuanian Culture Institute's programmatic guidelines.

The Lithuanian Culture Institute is the main institution responsible for presentation of Lithuanian culture and its promotion abroad. The Institute's objectives are to consistently strengthen the role of Lithuanian culture in the world, expanding international cooperation opportunities and networking for Lithuanian artists and cultural specialists, encouraging purposeful promotion of national culture abroad and initiating cultural exchanges.

From 1 January, the Lithuanian Culture Institute has become a budgetary institution having public administration authorisation. This new organisational form provides opportunities to allocate state funding to cultural organisations promoting national culture abroad, except in the area of cinema, to promote Lithuanian culture abroad in a more directed and effective way, and to raise the level of quality in the promotion of Lithuanian culture abroad in international forums.
