Meeting with cultural attachés: key focus areas for promoting international cultural cooperation and the upcoming Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union
Minister of Culture Vaida Aleknavičienė met with twelve cultural attachés representing Lithuania in fourteen countries and at the European Union. The meeting addressed priorities for international cultural cooperation and preparations for Lithuania’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The Minister underlined the role of the cultural attaché network in shaping and implementing cultural policy and strengthening international cultural cooperation. She also stressed the importance of international mobility and the promotion of Lithuanian culture abroad, noting that these efforts strengthen the competitiveness of the cultural sector and enhance the country’s reputation.
Preparations for Lithuania’s 2027 Presidency of the Council of the European Union were also discussed in greater detail. “Lithuania’s Presidency will highlight the role of culture in strengthening the resilience of societies by upholding democratic values, fostering civic awareness, empowering communities, and underlining the contribution of the cultural and creative sectors to the EU’s competitiveness,” said Minister of Culture Vaida Aleknavičienė.
Particular attention was given to strengthening the strategic partnership between Lithuania and Germany, including plans for a comprehensive Lithuanian cultural programme in 2027–2028.
The discussion also emphasized the importance of close cross-institutional cooperation in promoting culture internationally, as well as the need to preserve Lithuania’s cultural heritage abroad and protect cultural heritage in times of crisis.
