Lithuanian delegation in Japan: Cooperation agreement between the Lithuanian National Museum and the Nagoya City Museum and participation in the exhibition EXPO 2025 Osaka
During the visit of Acting Minister of Culture Šarūnas Birutis to Japan, a cooperation agreement was signed between the National Museum of Lithuania and the Nagoya City Museum. This event marks a new stage in strengthening the partnership between Lithuania and Japan in the field of culture.
The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between Lithuanian and Japanese museums by promoting the exchange of knowledge in the field of museology through various projects, including exhibitions, academic research, the preservation and management of cultural heritage, and talent development. Through these activities, museums seek to promote mutual improvement and deepen mutual understanding.
The signed document is also important in view of the exhibition "Lithuania – Echoes of Songs in the Baltic Forests" to be held at the Nagoya City Museum in 2026, which will introduce the Japanese public to Lithuanian history and culture. This project will be the first after the current reconstruction of the Nagoya City Museum.
During his visit to Japan, the minister paid tribute to the memory of the late diplomat Chiune Sugihara at the Memorial Hall named after him in the city of Jaotsu in Gifu Prefecture and participated in the official opening of the annual Gifu festival "Lithuania Now," which presents Lithuanian culture in Japan.
The Lithuanian delegation participated in the official Baltic Unity Day celebration at the EXPO 2025 Osaka World Exhibition. This event, held in the joint Baltic pavilion, was organized in memory of the unique historical event that took place on August 23, 1989 – the Baltic Way.
