Lithuania supports expansion of Eurimages fund’s financial support to multi-part TV movies
On 1 April, the Vice-Minister of Culture Daina Urbanavičienė participated remotely in the Council of Europe’s Conference of Ministers of Culture “Creating our future: creativity and cultural heritage as strategic resources for a diverse and democratic Europe” in Strasbourg, France.
During the conference, a joint declaration was adopted, which emphasises that culture, creativity and cultural heritage have to be mobilised as strategic resources while building a more diverse, democratic and sustainable Europe.
During the conference’s session dedicated to the promotion of diversity and pluralism policies, the Vice-Minister Urbanavičienė expressed Lithuania’s support to the proposal to expand the funding programme of Eurimages, the cinema support fund of the Council of Europe. The amendments pave the way for European filmmakers who create multi-part television movies to be eligible for financial support dedicated to European joint cinema production projects. Currently, only makers of feature-length, sci-fi, animated and documentary films are eligible for such a support.
“Joint-production multi-part television fiction projects have to be used to strengthen relations between European producers and artists, also to share authentic local stories in the entire Europe. This has to be considered a measure which helps strengthen our mutual understanding and trust and nurture the diversity of cultures”, Urbanavičienė said.
The conference was also attended by the Minister of Culture of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko. The conference’s participants signed a joint declaration regarding the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine. The document expresses commitment to use all possibilities provided by the Conventions of the Council of Europe and other legal acts in order to provide support to Ukraine’s cultural sector and help defeat the threats to its cultural heritage.
