Kaunas and Lublin to implement joint projects as European Heritage Label cities
The application "Re:union - Lublin and Kaunas as European Heritage Label Cities", submitted by Kaunas City Municipality in cooperation with Lublin City Municipality, has been approved by the European Heritage Label Office.
Each of the 67 European Heritage Label sites was eligible to apply for the call for project funding launched in July in the categories of youth involvement, digitisation, climate change challenges and strengthening European identity. The aim of this call for proposals was to strengthen links between European Heritage Label sites, increase community involvement and strengthen European identity, as well as provide access to additional funding for European Heritage Label site managers.
A total of 10 winners were selected, including the above-mentioned joint application from Kaunas and Lublin. It focuses on joint cultural and promotional activities and raising the profile of the European Heritage Label. Both cities intend to strengthen the perception of common European values, promote cultural heritage across national borders, focus on youth participation and tourism as a means of learning about cultural heritage. A maximum amount of EUR 30 000 has been earmarked for the financing of the planned activities.
In addition to sharing the project funds, Kaunas and Lublin will cooperate in organising events, producing information publications, exchanging best practices, spreading the message of their common cultural heritage and the European Heritage Label and strengthening the sense of European identity. In early 2025, Kaunas citizens and visitors will enjoy a wide range of cultural events. They will also take place in Lublin.
The winners of the Lithuanian selection for the European Heritage Label 2024 will be announced.
The Ministry of Culture is the national coordinator of the European Heritage Label in Lithuania.
