European support for the media and public consultations on safeguarding media freedom
The European Commission (EC) has announced three calls for proposals under the MEDIA sub-programme of Creative Europe, which has been allocated EUR 226 million of the European Union’s (EU) funds in 2022.
This is meant to support the recovery of the audiovisual sector and increase its competitiveness both in Europe and the world. Three calls for proposals have been announced: video games and immersive content development, networks of European festivals and MEDIA 360° tailored for supporting existing industries, new talents and markets as well as promoting cooperation among different sectors.
Also, under inter-sector sub-programme of Creative Europe, a separate call has been announced which is focused mostly on improvement of abilities to use the media. It has been allocated EUR 2.4 million in EU funds.
More information about these calls is available on the website of the EC representation in Lithuania.
We also point out that the EC has created an interactive map of the possibilities of funding for the audiovisual and news media. The aim of this tool is to facilitate access to the EU financial support mechanisms. It provides information on the possibilities of funding of the subjects of the audiovisual and news media sectors.
In order for the media market to operate better and more transparently, the EC has announced public consultations on the new EU regulations on safeguarding media freedom that are currently being developed. Remarks, responses to the presented questionnaire, and proposals are accepted until 21 March.
