Competition for position of Cultural Attaché in the USA was won by Gražina Michnevičiūtė for another term

The Ministry of Culture’s competition for the position of the cultural attaché at the Lithuanian Consulate General in New York, USA was won by the current attaché Gražina Michnevičiūtė. She received the most votes from the commission out of all eleven candidates who participated in the competition.

Michnevičiūtė has been working as the cultural attaché in the USA since 2018. Before this, she spent many years working in the field of journalism and as an editor of the Moteris magazine.

The main areas of the work of the Cultural Attaché of Lithuania in the USA are the presentation of Lithuania’s artists and their inclusion in the programmes implemented by the U.S. cultural institutions, organising of events, encouragement of professional relations between Lithuanian and U.S. cultural institutions, transferring of archives collected by the Lithuanian community as well as other archives, and cooperation with diaspora representatives who live in the USA and work in the field of culture.

Over the three years of Michnevičiūtė’s work, good relations have been established with prominent U.S. art institutions: the Jewish Museum in New York, Anthology Film Archives, Museum of Modern Art, Scandinavia House, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, the Vilna Shul, and the universities of Chicago and Washington have become strong partners. A lot has been done in preparation of the Jonas Mekas centennial events in the USA in 2022 and other projects are being successfully implemented.

The competition’s winner may start or continue work in the position after receiving the security clearance in accordance with the procedure established by law and after receiving approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania. The duration of one term of the cultural attaché is three years.
