Baltic countries discussed new cultural cooperation initiatives
At a meeting of the Baltic Cultural Committee held in Tallinn, the joint initiatives of Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia in the area of culture were discussed, along with issues concerning assistance to the Ukrainian cultural sector.
The countries shared information regarding their actions in the area of cultural policy, discussed the activities of the Baltic Culture Fund and the cultural platforms operating in the Baltic countries as well as opportunities for further development, publication of the creative work of winners of the Baltic Assembly Prize for Literature, and the possibility of establishing the Baltic Cinema Fund in 2025. Information was shared about the implementation of the agreement signed by the ministers of culture of the three countries in 2018 for the protection and development of the traditional song and dance festivals. Estonia's representatives presented the Cultural Leadership Programme carried out by Estonia's Ministry of Culture, and in this context the successful implementation of programmes to strengthen the professional competencies of cultural personnel in various areas under the Baltic format were discussed.
At the meeting, the instruments used by the Baltic countries to provide assistance to Ukrainian artists and cultural sites devastated by war were discussed. A project initiated and coordinated by the Lithuanian Association of Architects and funded by the EU's Creative Europe Programme, U-RE-HERIT / Architektai Ukrainos paveldui: atkuriant atmintį ir tapatybę (U-RE-HERIT / Architects for Ukraine's heritage: restoring memory and identity), was presented.
The Baltic Cultural Committee meeting took place during Tallinn Music Week. Taking advantage of the occasion, a discussion was held on the policies of the Baltic countries and mutual cooperation in the music area.
Trilateral cooperation under the Baltic Cultural Committee format takes place in accordance with the Baltic Council of Ministers, established in 1994. The next meeting will be held in Lithuania in 2024.
