The Ministry of Culture announces a competition for the position of the General Manager of the

Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre. Depending on the managerial experience possessed, the coefficient for the fixed part of the salary may be 16.32; 16.68; 17.04.

Special requirements

An applicant must:

  • have a higher university education and a master’s degree or an equivalent higher education qualification obtained after completing studies in humanities, social sciences, arts’ study field groups and at least 5 years of managerial work experience for a company, institution or organisation and/or their divisions; or business and studies in public management sciences, law study field groups and at least 5 years of managerial work experience in a company, institution or organisation operating in the field of culture and/or their divisions;
  • be familiar with the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania, laws governing the activities of theatres and concert institutions, human rights and freedoms and guarantees of their protection;
  • have skills of strategic planning, change management, financial resource planning and business communication skills, the ability to build, motivate and manage a team, the ability to organise and plan the work of the Theatre, be goal-oriented, be able to systematically analyse and objectively assess the situation and make optimal decisions;
  • know the basics of Theatre processes, be familiar with applied research in the field of professional performing arts and be able to apply them in forecasting the prospects for the development of the culture and art market;
  • be able to assess the current environment of professional performing arts, know the trends of theatre activity in Lithuania and abroad;
  • be able to work with Microsoft Office or an equivalent software package;
  • have a good command of the Lithuanian language at the level of the third proficiency category of the state language, as determined by Resolution No. 1688 of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania “On the approval and implementation of state language proficiency categories” of 24 December 2003, and know the rules of clerical work;
  • have a good command of at least one of the three working languages ​of the European Union (English, French or German) at a language proficiency level no lower than B1 (according to the system of six language proficiency levels established and described in the Common European Framework of Languages);
  • know the rules of professional activity and ethics of employees of cultural institutions, approved by the order of the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.

Applicants must submit the following documents:

  • request to participate in the competition;
  • documents confirming compliance with the manager’s qualification requirements or certified copies thereof;
  • curriculum vitae (Europass format);
  • the Theatre’s 5-year prospective activity programme, which outlines the evaluation of the Theatre’s activities and provides a vision of the activity, which includes creative activities based on the Theatre Regulations, dissemination of works, cultural educational activities, planned marketing activities (ticket reservation and sales system, service development, measures that encourage audience attendance, and other), management of infrastructure and human resources, management of financial resources, anticipated innovations and changes in the institution’s management and operations, as well as other important information at the discretion of the applicant.

A fixed-term employment contract for 5 years shall be concluded with a person who wins the competition.
