Tomas Ivanauskas was selected to be the cultural attaché in Ukraine
Tomas Ivanauskas won the Ministry of Culture's competitive selection process to perform the duties of the cultural attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine as well as to perform the cultural attaché's functions in Georgia. Of the three candidates participating in the selection process, he earned the most points from the commission.
In 2019–2022, Ivanauskas served as the cultural attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to the People's Republic of China and at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Korea.
Prior to his diplomatic service, Ivanauskas led the Lithuanian Foundation for Support of Visual Artists, has managed music groups as well as music and film festivals, and has worked as a concert organiser, director's assistant and literature section head at the Oskaras Koršunovas Theatre. Ivanauskas earned a master's degree at the Vilnius Academy of Arts.
A candidate who has won a competitive selection process may begin to serve after receiving a certification of reliability issued in accordance with the procedure specified by law and after being approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania.
A cultural attaché is a specialised attaché, serving in accordance with a fixed-term employment contract at an embassy or consulate of the Republic of Lithuania and working to improve international cooperation in the area of responsibility delegated to the Minister of Culture. A cultural attaché is directly subordinate to the Minister of Culture and to the head of the diplomatic mission or consular office.
The length of the term of service of a cultural attaché is three years.
