Lithuania’s experience in countering disinformation in Brussels
Vice-Minister of Culture Dr Viktor Denisenko participated in a meeting of the Media Literacy Expert Group organised by the European Commission in Brussels.
During the meeting, the Vice-Minister took part in a panel discussion on how the differing impact of disinformation across countries shapes national media literacy policies. Lithuania’s experience was discussed, highlighting the expertise the Baltic States have developed in responding to persistent information threats.
“In Lithuania, media and information literacy is becoming one of the most important tools for strengthening public resilience to disinformation. Through consistent efforts in education, cross-sectoral cooperation, and institutional solutions, we are reinforcing society’s resilience and its ability to critically assess information,” the Vice-Minister said.
The Vice-Minister introduced several Lithuanian initiatives aimed at strengthening resilience to information threats: the expansion of the MIRKT (Media and Information Literacy) programme in Lithuania; the development of a Plan for Countering Disinformation and Manipulation, initiated by the Ministry of Culture; as well as preparations for a policy forum to be held in 2027 during Lithuania’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
