Following recommendation of the Expert Panel’s report ECOC 2022 candidate city Kaunas published the pre-selection bidbook.

The Expert Panel of the competition for the 2022 European Capital of Culture title in Lithuania produced the pre-selection stage report containing a general assessment of all the applications as well as recommendations to the short-listed cities of Kaunas and Klaipėda.

The Ministry of Culture outlined to Adjacent Government journal how Lithuania is supporting digitisation of cultural heritage in libraries, museums and archives.

On 16 July, Lithuanian Minister of Culture Šarūnas Birutis and Prof. Dr. Monika Grütters, Minister of State to the Federal Chancellor and Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, discussed bilateral cultural issues and opened the 20 th Thomas Mann Festival in Nida.

On 15 July, Šarūnas Birutis, the Minister of Culture, has sent a letter of sympathy and condolences to Audrey Azoulay, the French Minister of Culture and Communications, and Philippe Jeantaud, the French Ambassador to Lithuania, over the tragic events in Nice.

Thursday, June 23, Gwangju – Chancellor of Ministry of Culture of Lithuania Laimonas Ubavičius on the margins of the 7 th ASEM Culture Ministers Meeting met the Vice minister of Culture of South Korea Park Younggoog. The chancellor emphasized a high potential of areas of bilateral cooperation – cinema, design, computer games and creative industries.

On 22 June, Vice-Minister of Culture Dr. Romas Jarockis took part in the meeting of the international commission dealing with issues related to the Lithuanian Jewish cultural and historical heritage and the preservation of the Jewish cemetery and Jewish mass graves in Lithuania.

On 23 June in Gwangju at the 7 th ASEM Culture Ministers Meeting the Chancellor of Ministry of Culture of Lithuania Laimonas Ubavičius presented Lithuania’s major policies and measures designed at fostering culture and creative industries, sustainable development and competitiveness.

On 20–21 June, the pre-selection procedure of candidate cities for the title of the European Capital of Culture 2022 was conducted in the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania. The pre-selection resulted in the shortlisting of two candidate cities: Kaunas and Klaipėda.

Monday, June 13, Vilnius – Vice minister Arnas Neverauskas met the delegation of China Arts and Entertainment Group, headed by Mr. Shuxin Shang, General manager. The meeting focused on cooperation and exchanges between performing arts institutions and artists of the two countries.

The Ministry of Culture accepted six bids from the municipalities, competing for the title of the European Capital of Culture 2022. Applications for pre-selection were submitted by Anykščiai, Jonava, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Plungė and Rokiškis.
