Minister of Culture: “United Kingdom becomes an exclusive cultural partner of Lithuania”

On August 8, the Minister of Culture Liana Ruokytė-Jonsson has met the designated ambassador of Lithuania in the United Kingdom Renatas Norkus.

“Next year we are expecting an interesting and exciting challenge – Lithuania along with Latvia and Estonia will be the exclusive guests of the London Book Fair. I believe and I see enough signs that literary, cultural communication and cooperation between Lithuania and the United Kingdom will be even more accelerated after the London Book Fair” said the Minister of Culture Liana Ruokytė-Jonsson.

The Minister of Culture has emphasized that the United Kingdom has already done a considerable amount of work in various fields of culture, in particular in the field of visual arts. There are many ties between the institutions of Lithuania and United Kingdom in the field of cinema, the British film industry is choosing Lithuania as a favorable country for film production: BBC TV series "War and peace", which has gained a high popularity, was filmed in Lithuania. In 2016, Lithuanian conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla has been appointed the art director of the Birmingham City Symphony Orchestra. Thus, the name of Lithuania will be increasingly associated with the highest level of mastery in the field of classical music.

Other topics have been reviewed with the ambassador of Lithuania in the United Kingdom as well - the visiting programme of artists and professionals in the field of culture, increasing the cultural management and communication competence of Lithuanian cultural organizations through internships, practices, courses as well as any other opportunities in the field of cultural education, strategic planning, fundraising, marketing.
