Over EUR 68 million will be Allocated for Heavily Affected Cultural Sector

Lithuanian Government, taking into account the proposals of the Ministry of Culture, provided extra funds of EUR 16.7 million within the Economic Stimulus and Coronavirus (COVID-19) Mitigation Action Plan.

In April, 8.3 million were already allocated for this purpose, thus the total amount of support for reducing the negative effects on artists and cultural organizations is EUR 25 million. Another EUR 43.3 million the Government has earmarked for the development and renewal of cultural infrastructure, so the total amount of support after the announcement of the quarantine has reached EUR 68.3 million.  

Of the newly provided EUR 16.7 million, EUR 13.6 million will be distributed through the Lithuanian Council for Culture for different funding instruments supporting cultural organizations, public and private.

An additional EUR 1.4 million of these funds will be administered by the Lithuanian Film Centre, providing support for film production and distribution, recovery of cinemas, the development of new television and film productions, and other activities. EUR 2 million were allocated to support the Lithuanian film sector earlier, thus the total amount of support has reached EUR 3.4 million.

EUR 1.7 million will be allocated for the acquisition of library collections – books and other publications.

In order to accelerate the renewal of cultural infrastructure and maintain jobs, EUR 18.3 million will be allocated for the renewal of cultural infrastructure under the Ministry of Culture, and EUR 25 million for the renewal of infrastructure of municipal cultural organizations and acquisition of equipment.

The decisions to support the cultural sector and people working in this sector is a part of the Economic Stimulus and Coronavirus (COVID-19) Mitigation Action Plan to mitigate the negative consequences of the pandemic.
