Minister of Culture Thanked German Ambassador for the Opportunity to Exhibit the Act of Reinstating Independence of Lithuania

December 6th, the Minister of Culture met with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Angelika Viets. During the meeting, they discussed successful cooperation between Lithuania and Germany in various cultural and artistic fields.

“Germany is a strategic partner of Lithuania, we value the relations of our countries and Germany’s participation and assistance of all types in the project which is so important for us: on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the restoration of the state we have been given the opportunity to exhibit the February 16th Act” said the Minister of Culture.

The Minister of Culture and the Ambassador have also discussed the events of the 100th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuania in Germany. In 2018, concerts of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and conductor Mirga Gražinytė, Martynas Levickis and Mettis Quartet are planned at one of Berlin's most important music centres in Konzerthaus.

In 2018, Lithuanian film program Focus on Lithuania will be presented in the documentary film festival DOK Leipzig. Participants and viewers of the Rügen Film Festival will be familiarized with the cinema of the Baltic States as well. Next year, the National Museum Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania together with Dresden's state-of-the-art collections, will be presenting an exhibition focused on the relations between Lithuania and Saxony.

Recent years have been marked with interesting cultural acquaintances and significant projects. This year Lithuania successfully participated in at the international Leipzig Book Fair as the guest country. This led to translations of 26 books of Lithuanian authors into German.

The Goethe Institute operating in Lithuania remains one of the most important cultural cooperation partners, which for almost two decades has been developing relations with Lithuanian cultural and artistic organizations.
