Minister of Culture Mindaugas Kvietkauskas starts working

Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis has introduced the Minister of Culture Mindaugas Kvietkauskas, who starts working today, to the employees of the Ministry of Culture, and wished him success in implementation of structural changes in the area of culture.

“Culture is a mode to gather people together so that the society could be stronger, - said the new Minister of Culture. – I have a commitment and inclination to see the field of culture universally. All its parts are important: heritage, libraries, theatre, music, education, and others. Besides, I would like to stress that I am coming from the Lithuanian linguistics – an area that unites culture and education, and I find the link between these two areas very important.”

Before becoming a minister, Mr. Mindaugas Kvietkauskas has been working in the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore for many years. He managed this institution in 2008-2018. His scientific interests lie in multilingual Lithuanian literature, modern Lithuanian literature, sociocultural researches in literature, and Jewish studies. Mr. M. Kvietkauskas has also worked as an editor of critical section of the magazine “Metai” (Years) of the Lithuanian Writers Union. He is a member of this creative union, an author of essays and poetry.

The literature researcher, PhD in Humanities M. Kvietkauskas has graduated the studies of Lithuanian language and literature. He also earned a diploma in Jewish studies in the Oriental Institute of the University of Oxford.
