The Minister of Culture Mindaugas Kvietkauskas has met with the Belarusian writer and journalist Ms Svetlana Alexievich, the winner of the Nobel Prize in literature.

During the meeting, they discussed about literature, Vilnius as a multilingual city, historical memory and its importance, the impact of historical events on society and the needs to talk about these issues differently by opening up the new meanings. They also spoke about the writer’s ties with Lithuania and her creative plans.

The premiere of the play Cinkas by Eimuntas Nekrošius based on the writer’s works Cinko berniukai and Černobylio malda took place in Vilnius in the end of 2017. On the same year, a mono-performance Vienišas žmogaus balsas based on Ms Alexievich’s book Černobylio malda was staged at the Lithuanian Russian Drama Theatre.

Ms Alexievich was awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Literature “for her polyphonic writings, a monument to suffering and courage in our time”.
