Minister of Culture Liana Ruokytė-Jonsson met with Shen Zhifei who has just begun working as an ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Lithuania. The meeting included discussions on bilateral co-operation of the culture and art organisations, as well as the upcoming visit of Chinese Minister of Culture Luo Shugang to Lithuania.

‘In recent years, especially after establishing the culture attaché office in the Lithuania’s embassy in Beijing in 2015, the relations between the Lithuanian and Chinese state and non-governmental art institutions became more active. The last year was marked by large tours of Lithuanian art collectives in China. I do not have any doubts about the continuity of such relations, their further development, human relations and friendliness’, noted Minister of Culture Ruokytė-Jonsson.

According to the Minister, the visit of Chinese Minister of Culture Luo Shugang to Lithuania is expected to further solidify the developing relationship, providing more opportunities for active cultural exchange.

In September 2017, Lithuania together with other 15 European countries co-operating with China in the 16+1 format signed the Hangzhou Declaration, approving a joint action plan for 2018–2019. This plan also helps to intensively develop bilateral co-operation in the field of culture.
